When JFIF supports an alpha channel (PNG, WebP, GIF) and the original JPEG had transparency, we keep it. Converting to a format without transparency (JPG, BMP) fills transparent areas with white by default.

If JFIF is lossless and JPEG was lossy (or vice versa), file size will change. PNG (lossless) is typically larger than JPG (lossy) for photographs but smaller for solid-color graphics and screenshots.
