PPTX Conversion FAQ

What is a PPTX file?
+
PPTX is an XML-based presentation format introduced in Microsoft Office 2007.
They stop being interactive. A PPTX carries build order, transitions, embedded media and notes; a fixed-layout export flattens each slide to its final state, and a video export plays the builds through on a timer instead. Neither keeps the notes visible unless you ask for a handout layout, so decide which of the three you actually need before converting. PPTX is the Office Open XML presentation format PowerPoint has used by default since 2007.
Because it is what the software on the machine saves by default, and defaults decide almost everything about which formats spread. The awkward cases are the predictable ones: a recipient on different software, an older version, or a system that only accepts one specific format for upload. All three are one conversion away from working.
Almost always fonts. A deck names its typefaces rather than carrying them, so a machine without the originals substitutes something close, the text occupies a different amount of space, and boxes that were tight overflow. Exporting to a fixed-layout or image format freezes the appearance at whatever the converting machine sees, which is the right trade when the design matters more than further editing.
Not without converting it. The layout in a PPTX is fixed, so a phone can only scale the whole page down — which is why reading one on a small screen means pinching and panning. Converting to a reflowable format re-derives the reading order and lets the text rewrap at whatever size is comfortable, at the cost of the original page design. PPTX animations, transitions and embedded fonts are the first things to break when it is opened outside PowerPoint.
That depends entirely on the target. Converting to another editable document format keeps the structure — styles, headings, tables — so work continues normally. Converting to a page or image format produces something for reading rather than writing, and getting back from there means a second conversion that reconstructs structure rather than restoring it. Keep the PPTX as the working copy either way.
Not to convert it. The format is Microsoft's and its own applications handle it best, but the file is readable by other tools and the conversion here runs server-side — nothing is installed and no licence is needed. Fidelity is the honest caveat: features specific to the original application are approximated rather than reproduced exactly.
It is deleted automatically. The upload and the converted result stay on our servers for about 24 hours, which leaves time to download the result, and are then removed by an automatic cleanup. The transfer runs over HTTPS in both directions. Nobody reads the contents, nothing is indexed, and nothing is passed to anyone else.
Usually seconds. Small files are effectively instant, and the cases that take real time are the ones doing real work: a long recording that has to be re-encoded frame by frame, a scanned document going through character recognition, or a very large batch. Where a conversion only rewraps or repackages the existing data it stays fast no matter how big the file is, because nothing is being decoded.
Upload your file by dragging it onto the page or clicking to browse, choose the output format, then start the conversion. The converted file is ready to download when it finishes.
Yes, our converter is completely free for basic use. No registration required.
It depends on the formats. A lossless target such as PNG, WAV or FLAC keeps what the source holds; a lossy target such as JPG, MP3 or MP4 is usually re-encoded, which trades some detail for a smaller file.
