How does PDF.to turn a EPUB ebook into a BMP image?

By default PDF.to renders the cover of your EPUB to a single BMP image. You can also render each chapter page of the EPUB to its own BMP, capturing the formatted text as a flat picture.

Why would I convert a EPUB to a BMP image?

A BMP of a EPUB cover is perfect for a store listing, a thumbnail, or a social post — it is a plain image that displays anywhere without an e-reader. Rendering pages to BMP also lets you preview a EPUB as pictures.

Do I get just the cover, or every page of the EPUB?

You choose. The default is cover-only, returning a single BMP. Switch to full-render mode and PDF.to produces one BMP per page of the EPUB, zipped together for download.

What resolution is the BMP?

The cover renders at the native resolution embedded in the EPUB, and page renders default to 150 DPI. Raise the DPI in the options for a sharper BMP when you plan to zoom or print.

Will the text in the BMP be selectable?

No. A BMP is a raster image, so any text from the EPUB becomes pixels and is no longer selectable or searchable. Convert the EPUB to PDF or a document if you need live text.

How does PDF.to handle the reflowable layout of a EPUB?

Because a EPUB has no fixed pages, PDF.to applies a standard reading layout before rendering, so each BMP shows a clean, consistently formatted page rather than an arbitrary device view.

Does the BMP keep illustrations from the EPUB?

Yes. Inline images and illustrations from the EPUB are part of the rendered page, so they appear in the BMP exactly where they sit in the ebook.

Can the BMP have a transparent background?

Page renders use a solid background by default. For target formats with an alpha channel you can request transparency so only the EPUB content shows in the BMP.
