MPG to AC3 Conversion FAQ
How do I extract audio from a MPG video as AC3?
+
Upload your MPG video. PDF.to pulls the audio track out, encodes it to AC3, and gives you a AC3-only download. The video stream is discarded. MPG is the same MPEG program stream as .mpeg — the three-letter extension is a DOS-era truncation, not a different format.
Will the AC3 output have the same sample rate as the source?
+
Yes by default. We do not resample unless you explicitly request it. 48 kHz is preserved from movie sources, 44.1 kHz from music sources.
Is the MPG to AC3 extraction free?
+
Yes, within the free size limit. PRO supports much larger MPG files and parallel batch extraction.
Does PDF.to read or store my MPG content?
+
No. Nobody reads the contents of your MPG, and nothing is shared. The uploaded MPG and the resulting AC3 are deleted from our servers automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result.
Can I batch-extract audio from multiple MPG files?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Does the converter work on streaming video URLs?
+
No — PDF.to converts files you upload, not third-party stream URLs. Download the MPG legally first, then upload it for AC3 extraction.
Why is the AC3 file much smaller than the MPG video?
+
Because the video stream (typically 90%+ of file size) is discarded. Only the audio track ends up in the AC3, which is why it can drop from gigabytes to a few megabytes.
