How does PDF.to turn a EPUB ebook into a SVG image?

By default PDF.to renders the cover of your EPUB to a single SVG image. You can also render each chapter page of the EPUB to its own SVG, capturing the formatted text as a flat picture.

Why would I convert a EPUB to a SVG image?

What resolution is the SVG?

The cover renders at the native resolution embedded in the EPUB, and page renders default to 150 DPI. Raise the DPI in the options for a sharper SVG when you plan to zoom or print.

Will the text in the SVG be selectable?

No. A SVG is a raster image, so any text from the EPUB becomes pixels and is no longer selectable or searchable. Convert the EPUB to PDF or a document if you need live text.

How does PDF.to handle the reflowable layout of a EPUB?

Because a EPUB has no fixed pages, PDF.to applies a standard reading layout before rendering, so each SVG shows a clean, consistently formatted page rather than an arbitrary device view.

Does the SVG keep illustrations from the EPUB?

Yes. Inline images and illustrations from the EPUB are part of the rendered page, so they appear in the SVG exactly where they sit in the ebook.

Can the SVG have a transparent background?
