DOCX to MD Conversion FAQ
How do I convert DOCX to MD?
+
Drop your DOCX file onto the upload area. PDF.to reads the source structure and writes an equivalent MD document you can download immediately. DOCX is Office Open XML, the format Word has produced by default since 2007 and an ISO standard since 2008. MD is Markdown, John Gruber’s 2004 plain-text syntax for writing structured documents that stay readable as source.
Can PDF.to batch-convert many DOCX files at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What is the largest DOCX file I can convert?
+
The free plan has a size limit that varies by file type; PRO allows much larger files. Documents that large usually have heavy embedded images.
Is the DOCX to MD converter free?
+
Yes. One conversion an hour is free, with no account needed, for a file within the free size limit. A paid plan removes the hourly limit and the size limit, and lets you add several files to one job.
Does PDF.to keep my DOCX content?
+
Only for a short time. Your uploaded DOCX and the resulting MD are deleted from our servers automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. Nobody reads the contents, and nothing is shared.
Why does my MD look slightly different from my DOCX?
+
Different document formats have different default fonts, margins, and pagination rules. We preserve content faithfully; minor visual differences in fonts or page breaks are expected.
