WebM to BMP Conversion FAQ
How do I extract images from a WebM video as BMP?
+
Upload your WebM video. PDF.to pulls frames out at the rate you pick and gives you a ZIP of BMP stills.
How many frames will I get from the WebM?
+
By default, one frame per second of WebM runtime. The options panel lets you pick every frame, one per 5 seconds, only key-frames, or a custom interval.
What resolution will the extracted BMP images have?
+
Source resolution. A 1080p WebM produces 1920×1080 BMP stills; a 4K source produces 3840×2160 stills. Downscale in the options panel if needed.
Can I extract a single frame at a specific timestamp?
+
Yes. Use the timestamp picker on the upload preview to scrub to the exact moment, then click 'extract this frame as BMP'.
Is the frame extraction lossy?
+
Each frame is decoded from the WebM (lossless) and re-encoded as BMP. If BMP is lossless (PNG), no quality is lost. If BMP is JPG, we use high quality (90) by default.
Will the BMP stills be timestamped or numbered?
+
Yes — file names are zero-padded sequence numbers (BMP_00001.BMP, BMP_00002.BMP, ...) so they sort correctly. The options panel can also embed the source timecode in EXIF.
Can I make a contact-sheet or thumbnail grid from the WebM?
+
Yes — pick the 'contact sheet' option to get a single BMP containing a grid of thumbnails, useful for storyboarding or video previews.
How large can my WebM video be?
+
100 MB on the free plan, 5 GB on PRO. Frame extraction is fast even for long videos.
Is the WebM to BMP extraction free?
+
Yes for files under 100 MB. PRO unlocks larger files, higher extraction rates, and parallel processing.
Does PDF.to keep my WebM or extracted BMP files?
+
No. Both the source WebM and the BMP output ZIP are deleted within an hour. Conversion runs in an isolated worker.
Can I extract images only from a section of the WebM?
+
Yes. Use the trim controls to set start and end times, and only the selected range produces BMP frames.
What if my WebM has variable frame rate?
+
We normalize to a constant frame rate internally before extraction, so the BMP stills are spaced evenly in time regardless of how the source was encoded.
