📙 Invertebrate Bacteriology: Function, Evolution and Biological Ties by Aurelio Ciancio (auth.) — epub download

This compendium reviews different processes acting on bacterial groups that evolved one or more relationships with members of the most important invertebrate Phyla. Starting from principles of basic bacteriology the book provides data on bacteria interactions with pests, animal or human diseases. Being present in all environments, from deep see to crops, animals or plants, invertebrates represent the most significant and ancient fraction of the eukaryotic biomass on earth. Their evolutive adaptations and links with bacteria, established over time scales of ages, range from vectored diseases to speciation, within a wide range of environmental niches and biocenosis, including oceanic hydrothermal vents. Main functional processes include pathogenicity, parasitism, transmission, immunity, symbiosis and speciation. A review about recent advances achieved in these research topics is given, focussing on one or more aspects concerning significant evolutive paths of bacteria and underlying functional links. Rather than proceeding through the order and structure of taxonomies, the volume is organized by processes, examining their functional role in different lineages, including but not limited to insects or nematodes. Processes involved in parasitism focus, at a finer level, on examples from many taxa. Molecular aspects underpinning these and other functional processes include the effects of horizontal gene transfer, the mechanisms active in immune defense and vectoring, and the antibacterial peptides. Finally, the effects of climate warming, biological invasions and agriculture are examined, with particular attention to farming and environment.

Primate Craniofacial Function and Biology
Primate Craniofacial Function and Biology free download by Daniel Schmitt, Christine E. Wall, Pierre Lemelin (auth.), Chris Vinyard, Matthew J. Ravosa, Christine Wall (eds.)

Primates have unusual heads among mammals. Their big brains, relatively short faces and forward-facing eyes are part of a unique combination of traits that have captured the interest of biological anthropologists for decades. Describing the patterns of pr...

Nonlinear Functional Evolutions in Banach Spaces
Nonlinear Functional Evolutions in Banach Spaces pdf free by Ki Sik Ha (auth.)

There are many problems in nonlinear partial differential equations with delay which arise from, for example, physical models, biochemical models, and social models. Some of them can be formulated as nonlinear functional evolutions in infinite-dimensional...

Acid Proteases:Structure, Function, and Biology
Acid Proteases:Structure, Function, and Biology epub download by Bent Foltmann, Vibeke Barkholt Pedersen (auth.), Jordan Tang (eds.)

In the past ten years, a number of proceedings of symposia on the structure and function of proteolytic enzymes have been pub lished. Their coverage of acid proteases has been limited, mainly due to the lack of significant new information on the structur...

Advanced Functional Evolution Equations and Inclusions
Advanced Functional Evolution Equations and Inclusions download pdf by Saïd Abbas, Mouffak Benchohra (auth.)

This book presents up-to-date results on abstract evolution equations and differential inclusions in infinite dimensional spaces. It covers equations with time delay and with impulses, and complements the existing literature in functional differential equ...

Flower seeds: biology and technology
Flower seeds: biology and technology pdf free by Miller B McDonald, Francis Y Kwong

The floral industry represents a significant proportion of agricultural income in several developed countries, particularly the USA, the Netherlands and Japan. Hitherto the sheer diversity of flower seeds, in their form, function and biology, has hindered...

Invertebrate Palaeontology & Evolution
Invertebrate Palaeontology & Evolution pdf free by Euan Clarkson, Euan, N.K. Clarkson

Invertebrate Palaeontology and Evolution is well established as the foremost palaeontology text at the undergraduate level. This fully revised fourth edition includes a complete update of the sections on evolution and the fossil record, and the evolutio...

Functions in Biological and Artificial Worlds: Comparative Philosophical Perspectives
Functions in Biological and Artificial Worlds: Comparative Philosophical Perspectives pdf free by Ulrich Krohs, Peter Kroes

The notion of function is an integral part of thinking in both biology and technology. Biological organisms and technical artifacts are both ascribed functionality; yet the concept of function is notoriously obscure (with problematic issues regarding the ...

The Pursuit of Perfection: Aspects of Biochemical Evolution
The Pursuit of Perfection: Aspects of Biochemical Evolution free download by Athel Cornish-Bowden

The term Biochemical Evolution is used to describe the evolution of the biochemical processes and components of living organisms, such as the structure and function of biologically important molecules, metabolic pathways, subcellular structures, and cells...
