📙 Delayed Preconditioning and Adaptive Cardioprotection by G. F. Baxter, D. M. Yellon (auth.), G. F. Baxter, D. M. Yellon (eds.) — pdf free

Interest in the ability of myocardium to adapt to ischaemic stress has continued to grow since the discovery of ischaemic preconditioning in 1986. In 1993, two reports heralded the recognition of a delayed preconditioning response in the heart, now commonly known as the `second window' of protection. Since then, a number of studies have described the ability of delayed preconditioning and related adaptive phenomena to protect against a variety of pathologies in the ischaemic and reperfused myocardium. Our understanding of the cellular mechanisms of sub-acute adaptive cardioprotection has advanced considerably during this period. This compilation of state-of-the-art reviews by those who have made significant contributions to this field provides detailed and critical analysis of this research, from molecular basis to potential clinical relevance. The book aims to provide an authoritative, comprehensive and thoroughly up-to-date overview for scientists and clinicians engaged in, or observing, this rapidly-developing area of heart research. It will also be of interest to those engaged in research on other tissues where ischaemia-reperfusion pathology is of major concern.

A cardiovascular-respiratory control system model including state delay with application to congestive heart failure in humans
A cardiovascular-respiratory control system model including state delay with application to congestive heart failure in humans free pdf by Batzel J.J., Timischl-Teschl S., Kappel F.

This paper considers a model of the human cardiovascular-respiratory controlsystem with one and two transport delays in the state equations describing the respiratorysystem. The effectiveness of the control of the ventilation rate V˙A is influenced b...

Myocardial Preservation and Cellular Adaptation
Myocardial Preservation and Cellular Adaptation epub download by E. Edward Bittar and Dipak K. Das (Eds.)

Living organisms exhibit specific responses when confronted with sudden changes in their environmental conditions. The ability of the cells to acclimate to their new environment is the integral driving force for adaptive modification of the cells. Such ad...

Reliable Control and Filtering of Linear Systems with Adaptive Mechanisms
Reliable Control and Filtering of Linear Systems with Adaptive Mechanisms pdf free by Guang-Hong Yang, Dan Ye

More and more, the advanced technological systems of today rely on sophisticated control systems designed to assure greater levels of safe operation while optimizing performance. Rather than assuming always perfect conditions, these systems require adapti...

Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change (America's Climate Choices)
Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change (America's Climate Choices) pdf free by America's Climate Choices: Panel on Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change, National Research Council

Across the United States, impacts of climate change are already evident. Heat waves have become more frequent and intense, cold extremes have become less frequent, and patterns of rainfall are likely changing. The proportion of precipitation that falls as...
